Yes, I’m definitely going to do that. Wait, should I do that? What if it’s not part of my destiny? Am I the hero or the villain in this tale? What do you mean this item is magical? I guess I’ll use it for this quest. Oh, it did nothing. Welcome to the world of Destinies, where you are in an epic race of self-discovery and discovering the meaning of life, guided by an atmospheric app offering up interesting and confusing choices. Thanks for stopping by for our mechanics & theme board game review of Destinies. We’re Amy & Maggie aka ThinkerThemer. We’re an Australian couple with two very different perspectives of what makes a great board game – Amy (Thinker) is all about the mechanics and enjoys tight, competitive games, and Maggie (Themer) is all about the storytelling and the theme of the game, and the ‘world’ that the designer is trying to create. Subscribe to our channel to hear us talk about these two elements of a game, and how well integrated we feel these are in delivering a cohesive and wonderful game experience.
Are you #teamthinker or #teamthemer? ❤🏳️‍🌈🇦🇺

  1. Don't worry, the postcards are still there! We filmed this one before putting them up 🙂 Thanks for watching!

  2. Congratulations !! This has been a brave first step into the "dark thematic zone". In a couple of months you will be reviewing Arkham Horror and Zombicide xD.
Even though i do not like eurogames, i really enjoy your reviews, you both do a great job.

  3. I’ve been thinking about this game for a while now…watched half your video…just ordered the game. Lol

  4. I do like that you brought up the variant of not knowing the destiny from the start by surprise 😃👌
I'm not a huge fan of the way the app is used and think it doesn't compete with other games, as well as the mechanic isn't very exciting after a while. But it is tidy and a fast, low maintenance adventure game. 🙂

  5. Not gonna lie…can’t wait for you (Amy) to say “my lovely wife” instead of “my lovely fiancé”. It’ll just be super cute. Love you ladies. 💕

  6. We did the EXACT same thing!! Just kept scanning, exploring, and piecing together our destinies without realizing that they were printed on the back of cards. That was funny to discover later in the game, but, as you said, it was almost more fun not knowing, even if it did take longer. This was our first app/story-driven game as well and we are in love. I'm glad we stepped outside of our comfort zone to give this a go. It has certainly opened a new door for us.

  7. Reviewing Destinies? Love that you are expanding your horizons! I own and enjoy this game! The app is so easy to use, the mechanics are light. This is a great gateway game into fantasy dungeon crawlers. Now, we need you to get Too Many Bones and Mage Knight!! 😊😊😊

  8. I love fantasy and this one had caught my eye. But the fact that once you are done with the story line their isn't any replayability. I just can't afford games like this at the moment. I also don't have anyone else in my life who I could gift it to after I was finished. Great video as always ladies!

  9. This looks like a great package at a great price, and yet part of me is happy that it was sold out in the US when I went to buy a copy because my group has a terrible streak of only getting 1/3 of the way through campaign/narrative-driven games and then I feel like we missed out and I have to try to find a way to force it back to the table at the expense of all the other newer games we've acquired. That super affordable Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion keeps glaring at me online, but I must. not. add. to. cart.

  10. thank you for review!
if you are interested in games alike Destinies -would recommend Forbidden Waters, which as huge bonus has fantastic voice acting

  11. Haha! Welcome to the fantasy side of gaming, ladies!! Glad to hear you enjoyed your experience. <3

  12. Another great review! This one wasn’t on my radar, but was really glad to see you review it. Similar to y’all , this one is outside my style of games. I probably will still pass on it (my shelf of shame is rather large with games I know are my style 😳). Your enjoyment of it though really has me intrigued. I am still not sure how I like App driven games. It’s so odd for me as I love my board games, I enjoy games on BGA, and I enjoy board games on my iPad when I can’t play the physical game, but merge the two together and I struggle with it! 🤔🤷‍♀️ thanks so much for the surprise review! We were playing on BGA and on voice chat in Discord when the review showed up. We were like…play another game or take a quick break and go watch the review! !

  13. One thing to point out, is that there is also an editor coming. So there will be a bunch of player developed content coming. Can't wait to see what people come up with. And they have a 4 player team game expansion, that sounds like it might be interesting.

  14. Woohoo! Glad to hear you both enjoyed this game! That doesn't mean that you'll like fantasy adventure games in general, but I still have the Aladdin song "A Whole New World" playing in my head 😀

So if Lucky Duck sent you a copy of Destinies, any chance you'll be getting a preview copy of Divinus? That looks to be their next hotness. You get a 5€ credit if you follow the preview page on Gamefound. I'm in! 🙂

  15. Alex at Boardgameco really loved this one but other than the app driven aspect he seemed more likely to enjoy it than I thought I would be so I wasn't completely sold (though I put it on my wishlist as a like to have) you two just moved it up higher on my want to play list for sure. I have a big list for when I start buying games again haha.

  16. I’ve only played it once but I really enjoyed. Imo it’s not a game to take super serious and be ultra competitive but like you said “the journey” is so fun. I’m excited to see what other settings they come up with as space (aliens or 40k esq), pirates and an Indiana Jones skins would be my top 3 choices.

  17. I like seeing you try different themed games. I'm dipping my toe into war games, it's been unexpectedly fun and a good challenge. Wondering if you would try Bargain Quest. It's dripping with theme, the art is super fun and I'd be curious to have your opinions of the game.

  18. Oh my! I wasn't expecting a review of this game from you, you're steps away from The 7th Continent!
    Great review as always!

  19. i have zero interest in campaign-style games. perhaps i should be more open minded but 'should' is a bad word

  20. We enjoyed the base scenarios and the Sea of sand expansion. The expansion offers some new things like boat and camel
travel. The app provides the map and locations, which is nice. We also like the sound effects throughout the gameplay. There is overlay woven throughout the stories creating some repetition.
