Payday from Hasbro
Product Info: Pay Day, from Hasbro Gaming, is a classic board game, originally made by Parker Brothers in 1975. Although there have been some changes over the years, this version is very close to the original. It comes with a game board, 2 dice, 100 cards, 4 game pieces, a loan pad, and money! This game is for 2-4 players, ages 8+. The object of Pay Day is to end the game with the most money. Different than many other board games, instead of moving around in a circular pattern, or through a path, players roll to get through a month’s calendar. At the end of the month is pay day – you’ll get paid and have to pay your bills. Before the game starts, choose how many months you’d like to play. Depending on the amount of months and players, games can take anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours. Along the way you’ll pick bargain, event, and mail cards. The cards, game spaces and dice give everyone many options on how to strategize against their opponents, in hopes of ending the month as the richest player. Still, a lot of the game is dictated by the randomness of your roll. I would not put Pay Day in the same category as games like Monopoly or Life. It is fun, and I think some older folks will enjoy the nostalgia, but I wonder how much younger kids will like it. I respect the fact that this game has not been modernized, by adding current payment methods like credit cards, Venmo or bit coin. But I do wonder if they are missing an opportunity to engage younger audiences, and hence, their own pay day.
